Hi Tweats,

I went to the Cidar River Mouth this morning to try to see the Stilt
Sandpiper. When I arrived, I saw a few birders were looking at something in
the river. I stopped by and asked them what they were looking at. They told
me it was a Virginia Rail out in the open by the other side of the river. I
eventually found the Rail and had great looks.

Next, I went on to the deck to try to look for the Stilt Sandpiper. A
couple told me it had been feeding at the same spot all morning. I found it
but only being confirmed by Tom Mansfield who showed up shortly that it was
a Juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher. primarily due to its sawing feeding
behavior. Shortly after Tom left, the Stilt Sandpiper came in at about
10:00am. Indeed it fed very differently by poking and go, not sawing. It
stayed for only a few minutes and then took off towards the river and
disappeared. It showed white rump and long yellow legs behind the tail when
it was flying. Took photos when it was taking off.

I stayed for another hour but it did not return.

Good luck,
