Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Shorebird movements during the week were very heavy. On August 15, 4000
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1000 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 50 BLACK TURNSTONES were at
Bandon; 3100 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 146 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and three RED
KNOTS were on the beach at Yachats; and a STILT SANDPIPER, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER, and a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER were at Rockaway. At least eight
TATTLERS were at Seaside Cove August 16.

440 ELEGANT TERNS were at Coos Bay August 12. On August 17, 370 were on Sand
Island at the mouth of the Columbia River.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was at Ridgefield NWR August 17. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was
there August 19. Broughton Beach near the Portland Airport was the hotspot
during the week with Three LONG-BILLED CURLEWS, a WHIMBREL, a BAIRD?S
SANDPIPER, COMMON TERN, PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER, 4 SANDERLINGS, and a
RED-NECKED and RED PHALAROPE reported.

On August 15 three SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and over 100 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were
at Ankeny NWR. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was there August 19. Two LARK SPARROWS
were at the Philomath Sewage Ponds during the week. On August 15 about 50
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.
