Subject: [Tweeters] Atypical Purple Finch BC

*A bizarre atypical Purple Finch in heavy molt was recorded on Bowen Island
British Columbia on August 19 & 20, 2015. The fleshy gape should indicate
that the bird was in juvenile plumage. Comments on why this bird is in molt
and has blue patches and bright rusty secondary wing-bars and lesser
coverts are welcomed. The colour is actually pale blue and not gray as seen
by several observers in life. Striping was present on the breast.*

*A photo of the bird and a typical juvenile Purple Finch taken at the same
feeder a day later are here:*
