Tweets, I spent mid-to-late Tuesday morning detecting the "whispers and shadows" (per Rob S's recent delightful post) of post-nesting passerines on the outskirts of Tenino. Nothing unusual, but I encountered a nice mixed flock above the mill pond on the Heernet/Creekside Conservancy property: Black-th Gray (2-3), Orange-cr (1 singing in 3/4 voice), Yellow (1), and Wilson's Warblers (1-2), Hutton's Vireo (2), Black-c and Chestnut-b Chickadees, Golden-cr Kinglets. Found a concentration of birds feeding on the bounty of fruiting trees and bushes along the walking/biking trail near the huge cottonwood snag 0.2 mi west of the access at SR507 x Churchill/Mull: Warbling Vireo (8+), Red-e Vireo (1 calling persistently, present for about a week now), Swainson's Thrush (2-4), Western Tanager (1), Cedar Waxwing, Purple Finch (2), Song Sparrow, Orange-cr Warbler, Willow Flycatcher, etc. Also present: Wood Duck, Evening Grosbeak (4), Band-t Pigeon, Downy and Pileated Woodpeckers. 37 spp. Good birding!
