This morning I was able to locate an Elegant Tern at Three Crabs near
Sequim. This year I have looked for this species here four times and once
on Dungeness Spit without success. I saw the bird sitting and flying. It
was calling as it flew and I actually heard that before I saw the bird.

My closest view was as it chased a Caspian Tern and it was less than 40
feet above me. Both birds were calling and so it was nice to hear that
difference at the same time and so close. As I viewed it through my
binoculars I saw that longer and thinner beak open and heard the call.
That was a highlight I will not soon forget and makes up for my past misses
at seeing this species here.
