Location: ? mile off Pacific Ocean shoreline at Twin Harbors State Park
(south of Westport, WA)

Aug 27, 2015 ? 17:00-18:00

A ?stream? of Sooty Shearwaters were seen migrating from north to south ~2
feet above the ocean?s surface.

During the hour visit, it was a steady, unending stream of birds flying fast
with sharp, quick wingbeats & occasional, short glides.

Three averaged 1-min counts estimated 220 individuals passing by per minute.
During our one-hour visit, we estimate 13,200 shearwaters flew by.

The northerly stream of seabirds continued with no end in sight when we left
at 18:00.

The shearwater?s body was cigar-shaped & ~size of a medium gull. Wings were
long, narrow triangles. The wingbeats were reminiscent of swifts.
