A couple of us have been holed up in Westport since the weekend pelagics had to be canceled. Electricity was restored during the night. We went to Westhaven S.P. this morning with the hope that the storm had blown something good in. All we got was rained on. A drive south on the beach from Grayland yielded one Snowy Plover and one Semipalmated Plover among all of the Sanderlings. There was one Common Tern among a small flock of Caspians. The Midway Ponds were disappointing. We only saw four Long-billed Dowitchers and two Least Sandpipers. One American Pipit was the best bird there. North Cove produced the morning's jackpot. We had excellent views of a flock of 22 ELEGANT TERNS on the beach, slightly apart from the gulls. All were scattered by a large and off-leash dog. But it gave us the opportunity to count the terns again as they flew off. It was high tide when we arrived at Graveyard Spit. We saw no Elegant Terns among the Caspians but we did get good looks at the continuing LONG-BILLED CURLEW.
