Whenever Karen and I return home at night from civilization (Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue and points west) we follow an owl route through the Snoqualmie Valley hoping to see a Barn Owl. Tonight at about 9:30 we saw one on a telephone wire along NE 100th Street and another on a road sign along Carnation Farm Road adjacent to Sikes Lake. To follow our owl route take a right at the bottom of Novelty Hill Road onto West Snoqualmie Valley Road. Then take a left at the red barn onto NE 100th Street. This road bends right twice and crosses Sikes Lake. At the stop sign, turn left onto Carnation Farm Road which will take you by Camp Korey (formerly Carnation Farm) & Chinook Bend across the Snoqualmie River to Highway 203. We have seen Barn Owls at various points along this route. Warning: along parts of this route the ditches adjacent to the roads are very deep.
