Pectoral Sandpiper.
?
Likely a first year bird, still retaining some trace of juvenile plumage.
First seen yesterday on the Lewiston-Clarkston CBC by Jerry Cebula and David Koehler.
John Hanna and I found it again this AM in the same small drainage ditch.
Since this bird is remaining so late in the area and could possibly be a very rare Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, we sought outside opinion to arrive at the ID.
Many thanks to all whom responded to help, particularly, Dennis Paulson, who is always extremely helpful.
Previous late December records show some birds have occurred in Florida, South Carolina and Texas.? Most birds should be in South America at this time.
