I was in Bellevue this afternoon to drop a package off at the FedEx office, and decided to check the Bellevue Botanical Gardens for any signs of the yellow-bellied sapsucker seen there two days ago. Though the park was quiet in the afternoon, we had a nice walk around the loop in the back of the park; the view of the forest from the ravine suspension bridge is beautiful, and probably even more so in summer! Unfortunately, the star of the outing was not to appear.

However, I did locate the bird's wells. While initially I had assumed that the sapsucker had been seen feeding on a conifer, I looked at the photos on eBird and realized that this was not the case. They are in fact on a hazel tree in the northeast corner of the Waterwise Garden (look for the small, isolated grove of tall conifers just west of the visitor center). Any future searches for the bird should definitely focus on the sapsucker wells on the trunk of this tree.
