Subject: [obol] RED-FLANKED BLUETAIL is NOT chaseable
To: OBOL Oregon Birders Online <obol at freelists.org>

Greetings All,

With advance permission of the finder of the bird, who is a nephew of the
property owner, Shawneen and I visited the home where the Red-flanked
Bluetail was discovered on 26 December. We saw and photographed the bird
this afternoon along with two other birders. We have since talked with the
property owners and described what would likely happen if they opened up
their property to birders. They have legitimate concerns about the impact
to their privacy, property and neighboring properties on the *PRIVATE ROAD*
that they live along.

I realize that the address of the property was included in the original
eBird posting and that this information has now been shared in a number of
public domains. This does not translate to de facto permission to go onto
private property. The property owners have made their wishes abundantly
clear and as unhappy as that may make many birders, those wishes must be
honored. *Please respect their wishes and do not attempt to visit this
property, or show up and knock on the door asking for permission to look
around. *

If you think that you might be able to see this bird from nearby public
roadways, you will be sorely disappointed. I will not be sharing any
further information about the location or contact information for the
property owners, so please don't bother asking.
