Headed north to fill a gap or two this afternoon. Thanks to Russ up on Dike
Road, a Great Horned Owl that he found turned into 3 when we were done
pointing them out to each other. I headed around south on Dike Road to the
Lewis River and east under the RR tracks to the dairy where a Merlin buzzed
through. A nice collection of sparrows were there in a blackberry patch
including a White-throated Sparrow and one that appeared to be a WTSP
hybrid. Again finding Russ, he pointed me to an owl spot, and I looped all
the way around to Guild Road to the dead end going west, where at 5:07 two
Short-eared Owls turned up as he suggested could happen. But on the way
there, when I turned onto Guild Road from Burke=Robinson Road a RUSTY
BLACKBIRD that was perched on a wire bolted to a roost tree, and it would
not budge. I'll be back there soon to check that spot again.
