Of course, the House Sparrow in the flowering quince outside my living room window in Bremerton has been singing away since early January (a surprisingly nice song for such a reviled bird -- the notes and phrases are somewhat robin-like).? But today, as I hiked around the deep woods in Jackson Lund Park in Port Orchard, I heard the first Pacific Wren songs of the year, and, in the swamp at the edge of the park, Song Sparrows were singing, too.? I expect the floodgates of sound will soon open.
