> Today around 11 a.m. Karen and I were able to observe the oft viewed Red-naped Sapsucker in Washington Park Arboretum aided by directions from birder Mitch (thank you!) and by a gardener pointing out the specific tree. Also enjoying the sap from the tree were a gray squirrel, a Red-breasted Sapsucker and an Anna's Hummingbird. To find the tree, park in Lot #19, which is across the street from and slightly north of the Japanese Garden. Walk up the hill on zigzag paths until you see two gazebos. The tree is about 10 feet off the path between the two gazebos and about 1/2 way between them. The tree is a Spanish Pine and the trunk is well shaded. It helped that we printed a map of the arboretum from the internet.
