The Great Blue Herons have started to gather at their rookery along Soos
Creek in Kent/Covington. We saw at least 24 of them today (Sunday, February
8, 2015). Even from the parking area off 148th Ave. SE by the maintenance
barns you can see some of the herons in the distance off to the south, but
you get much better views by making your way to the main Soos Creek Trail
and then heading south (right) for about 200 to 300 yards and if you look
west (right) you'll see the nests and herons near the tops of the trees near
the creek. You probably can also see the herons from 148th Ave. SE, but I
don't recommend doing that as there isn't much of a shoulder along the
narrow road. This is a good time to view the rookery as the trees haven't
started to leaf out yet.

Good birding!
