Hi Matt and Tweeters,
Looking at your Nikon Action Extreme it appears that they use porro prism
technology, which is bigger and heavier than the roof prisms used in many
newer binoculars. I looked up a well regarded 8x32 roof prism, the Sightron
SII 8x32 and it's about 9oz less than your Nikons. Size-wise is a little
harder to compare. Porro binoculars tend to be wider than they are long and
roof prisms tend to be longer than wide. The Sightron's I mentioned are
apparently 5.5" long (I can't find a width, but it would be less than 5.5")
and your Nikon's are 7.24" x 4.72" so you'd probably save at least 1.5" in
one dimension.

There are also even more compact 8x32 options out there as well, but I
don't have specific models I can recommend.You can also get binoculars with
smaller diameter objective lenses, but you not only lose out on light, but
often things like eye relief which can negatively effect glasses wearers.
