Subject: [Tweeters] Vashon Western Bluebirds and first of season Rufous

Vashon?s first photo documented Western Bluebirds showed up today along Cemetery Road in the middle of the Island. The three birds fed on worms by diving on them from a fence line in some old fruit trees in the middle of a large field. The photo sent to me by Erik Steffens shows a female Western Bluebird. There?s one earlier record from 2008 without photo documentation or secondary observers and then one has to go back to the 1940?s for definite sightings.

Vashon?s first Rufous Hummingbird of the year was reported Tuesday by Brenda Sestrap who often gets the first returning hummer.

I?m in the process of moving so for those interested my email is changing to edswan at theswancompany.com.
