Subject: [Tweeters] Great deal on pelagic trip (out of Los Angeles)

I didn't think it was too out of the realm of possibilities that someone
in Tweeterdom might be in the Los Angeles area on March 1. The below
pelagic trip looks like a great opportunity and deal. How often do you
go out on pelagic trips that include breakfast, hot lunch and sodas?

Good birding all!

Hi all.
There is some exciting news on the pelagic birding front in Los
Angeles County. The Catalina Explorer, a 65-foot dive boat out of
22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, is ready to run a number of
birding trips. Some of you might know the boat under its former
name, the Magician, and many of you probably remember Capt. Carl
Mayhugh from the Christopher out of Long Beach, he has taken many
of us to see boobies on the local buoys. Carl has just bought the
Catalina Explorer and he expects to have a full schedule of
pelagic birding trips once he takes care of the prior
commitments.
One exploratory trip will be on Sunday, March 1. It is an eight
hour trip, and the proposed itinerary will take us out through
deeper waters in the channel to the oil rigs with its contingent
of roosting Brown Boobies, and then northwest along the
escarpment off the Palos Verdes Peninsula towards the Redondo
Canyon. The cost is $110 per person and includes a full breakfast
and hot lunch from the boat's awesome galley, plus all the soda
you can drink. Leaders for the trip will be announced soon.
This is short notice, but it would be really great if we could
make this trip go. It could be the return of regular pelagic
birding trips to our area. The spots we are going to visit always
have a good variety of species, and with the exceptionally warm
water we have been having, some big surprises are possible.
Check out the Catalina Explorer website,

"Reservations" button to sign up.
See you aboard!
