Hi, Wilson -
I don't post on Tweeters, so I thought I would pass this on to you. My wife & I were out at Steigerwald today and saw a White-tailed Kite. Definitely not a male Northern Harrier. First sighting was about 10:15 from the north end of the trail, just past the willow grove. We were looking east toward the tree where the Harriers like to hang out. It was up in the air initially and I thought it was a male No. Harrier, but noticed it was white, had a different tail and had black at the front shoulder area. It settled on a small blackberry bush about 200 yards or so to the east. Sat there forever. We walked the refuge until about 1:30 and when we returned it was gone, but as we drove out on the gravel it was back on the blackberry bush. Got a great view. No one had listed it on the grease board, so I thought I'd let you know. Also, saw a Red-shouldered Hawk near the parking lot, in a tree up on the dike. A 6 raptor, 5 woodpecker day. Had a grand total of 38 species. Great day. Never a bad day at Steigerwald! Best regards,Rick
