Subject: [Tweeters] Grays Harbor CBC preliminary number

Hey Tweets...I finally managed to get a total number of species, included
crow species because they are so dominant out here and the American vs
Northwestern sticks in my craw (pun intended).

The number of species seen was 128, up considerably from the 2013 total of
116. I don't have the total number of birds yet; it should be up by
tomorrow sometime.

Some of the highlights: great birding weather! We didn't have rain or wind.
It was a bit cold, but I'll take that any day compared to what happened out
here Sunday. We really dodged a bullet.

A Clark's Grebe was seen on the Chehalis River in Hoquiam by Lonnie Somers
and Dave & Sherry Hayden, 4 Lincoln's Sparrows were seen, 335 Varied
Thrush, 2 Barn Owls, a single Lesser Yellowlegs, 416 Black-bellied Plovers,
only one Ring-necked Pheasant, a Barrow's Goldeneye, and only 6 Brown
Pelicans....by now you all know I have a "thing" about pelicans being here
at inappropriate times of the year. Also seen was a blue form Snow Goose,
also off Hwy 105. No one saw the Emperor Goose that was spotted in Ocean
Shores in October and November.

Missing in action was my own Barred Owl, my yard bird; I found it dead in
the road just last month a block away, and so far it has not been replaced
on the territory. Also missing was a Western Screech Owl heard the past two
years off Hwy 105 near Stafford Creek Prison.

I will be glad to send out the complete list to anyone who wants it, but it
may not be done until this weekend. I will first send that list to all the
area leaders as I always do, and with my heartfelt thanks for your
continued participation; it is SO appreciated!
