A glorious January day, a little chilly?low 30s?but not much wind and a clear morning. Lots of activity on land and water; too bad there were so many off-leash dogs that kept scaring off the birds.

Greater White-fronted Goose - 1 bird with the large flock of Canadas on the sports field, until the model airplanes arrived
Cackling Goose - small flock flying to the east over the north end of the park
Eurasian Wigeon - 1 with the large flock (>100) of AMWI, near the boat ramp
Eurasian Green-winged Teal - no vertical stripe, a noticeable horizontal white stripe, the edging separating the green patch from the red-brown head more pronounced than on the other adjacent males; Entrance Pond
Canvasback - 1 with the large flock of ~200 Greater and ~100 Lesser Scaup; seen from the board walk at the boat launch?with the sun at my back, the green and purple heads of the male scaups were just luminous
Red-breasted Merganser - 1 with 2 COME, middle of lake
Common Loon - middle of lake
Raptors included a juvenile Sharp-shinned, adult Cooper?s, and 2 Red-tailed Hawks plus a Bald Eagle
Herring Gull - 2 in the fields, 1 on the platform
Barn Owl - 1 flew from the fire tower box, another kleaking from the CC box, early
Warblers included both Myrtle and Audubon?s Yellow-rumps plus a Townsend?s female
Purple Finch - 1 in the meadows, 1 on Promontory Point
Promontory Point was alive with activity today, including Purple and House Finch, both Kinglets, both Chickadees, Cedar Waxwing, Spotted Towhee, American Robin, Bewick?s and Pacific Wren, Townsend?s Warbler, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch, Anna?s Hummingbird, Downy Woodpecker, Norther Flicker, Dark-eyed Junco, Fox and Song Sparrow all within about a 20 m radius. Glorious!

For the day 66 taxa, up to 70 species for the year.
