After reporting in a previous post that I only had 2 juvenile Anna's left in the garden, I went out and shot for a few hours this evening and noticed upon downloading that I was wrong. Though only one or two appeared at a time, and rarely at the feeders, there were actually 5 different birds (3 Anna's and, at least 2 Rufous) working the fuscia and newly emerged crocasmia. Heat? Lack of water? Resting from raising young? Migrating northward for less heat and more water? Migrating southward after raising young? I'll wait for the explanations since I have nothing to go on but speculation.
