Hello Tweeters,
Yesterday the 10th, Casey and I hiked up yellow aster butte and then
continued up halfway to the summit of tomyhoi mountain scouting for our
upcoming trip on July 25th. We had a great day of birding and beautiful
weather. On the actual trip we will not go up towards tomyhoi mountain
because of extra distance and difficult trail.
Highlights include:
White-tailed Ptarmigan- 3 adults and two chicks on Tomyhoi mountain trail.
Horned Lark- 1 bird on Tomyhoi mountain trail
Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch - two on Yellow Aster butte, 3 on Tomyhoi mountain
trail
American-three Toed-Woodpecker- one female coming down in the afternoon,
continuing for three years now.
Chipping sparrow - two pairs with a total of 4 birds on yellow aster.
Slate-colored Fox Sparrow - total of 3 birds
However the highlight of the day came when we were coming around yellow
aster butte when a Brewers Sparrow flew in and gave us both good views.

A full list and details can be seen on my ebird checklist:
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S24225413

If anyone is interested in the trip, we still have spaces availably.
Details can be viewed on the WOS website at:

Good birding,
Fanter Lane
