Comments: Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood birded with 16 others at Eastside Audubon's monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park on July 22, 2015, from 8:00 am to about noon. Skies were mostly cloudy, 63-69F, 3-9 mph. HIGHLIGHTS: 1 adult GREEN HERON was perched and preening on a horizontal tree stump in Issaquah Creek; 1 ACCIPITER SP., most likely a Cooper's Hawk; 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, in 3 different areas, 3 juv and 1 adult; 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS at the mouth of Issaquah Creek; 1 RING-BILLED GULL; 2 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS, 1 BLACK SWIFT; 1 immat. RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER; 1 PILEATED WOODPECKER heard; 4 WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES; 8 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS; 2 singing PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, one bird frantically being pursued by and feeding two Brown-headed Cowbirds; 2 WARBLING VIREOS; 8 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES; 4 warbler species: COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and WILSON'S WARBLER. 4 WESTERN TANAGERS; 4 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS; and 3 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES. 53 species for the day, 126 for the year. Critters: 5 deer, including one female with two fawns; Eastern Gray Squirrels and bunnies. We left the park wondering "Did a few of us hear a Yellow-breasted Chat call 3 times near the orchard??" We did not get a response to brief play back, so it's a mention only and is not officially listed in this eBird report. The next bird walk is Monday, AUGUST 17. No pre-registration, just show up depending on your mood or the weather. Since this is a state park, a Discover Pass is necessary to park ($10 daily, $30 annual). We meet in the large parking lot to the left just inside the main park entrance, now signed as the Costco Parking lot, but we meet at the far end towards the lake (not the boat launch entrance).Submitted from BirdLog NA for Android v1.96.
53 species (+3 other taxa)
