Dear Tweeters,
Last week sometime, Herb Sargo found a Western Scrub Jay in Burlington, Skagit County. Kraig Kemper later found two there. Today, I found one.
The birds are in the "back yard" of U.S. Bank, right where SR 20 makes a jog to the south, across the street from the high school. I went after banking hours, parked in the bank lot, and walked to the large area of open ground directly east of the bank, behind a privacy fence that runs along the bank's back wall. There is also a big real-estate sign offering the property for sale, which has been undeveloped for years. There are also a couple of remnant driveways that appear to head into the lawn. In this large area of lawn east of the bank, there are a few clumps of blackberries and fruit trees; the jay popped out of a clump and flew across the street. If you see a beanie-style cap hanging from a bramble patch, you are in the right spot.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
