Subject: [Tweeters] Dickcissel in Hardy Canyon, Yakima County

Hi Tweeters,

Richard Repp found a Dickcissel in the drive in section of Hardy Canyon
early this afternoon. I got up there as quickly as possible and joined
John Hebert and Richard looking for it (Richard had been monitoring
bluebird boxes while John and I were driving up there). We found it fairly
quickly and enjoyed very good looks and also heard it as it sang regularly.

To get to the location, drive in the entrance to Hardy Canyon where the hay
barn is. Go through the two gates and over the bridge. About 200-250 yards
past the bridge you will come to a dead sagebrush bush with a yellow ribbon
tied to it on the right side of the road. The Dickcissel is in that general
area. It moved quite regularly and seemed to prefer bare branches to perch
on. It did not allow us to get very close to it.

This is a new species on the Yakima County list. A photo of it is in the
new photos folder on my website:

A WORD OF CAUTION: There is a photo of a coiled rattlesnake in the new
photos folder . I saw it Saturday morning after I left the YVAS field trip
there.
