I just returned home from checking the six Purple Martin nest boxes we mounted at the pilings between the ferry dock and the public pier. There were five martins this afternoon. One was occupying box 4. Three were on the far single piling that holds boxes 5 and 6. A fifth bird was perched atop one of the triple pilings. This morning the martins were not around the nest boxes but the Tree Swallow pair was at the far single piling. There was no sign of the Tree Swallows this afternoon. While the boxes can be viewed from the public pier, it is closer to watch them from the Senior Center parking lot along Railroad Avenue.
