Thanks to Evan Houston for his report of birds at the US Open. Yes, the
White-crowned Sparrows are heard constantly at the course, and Savannah
Sparrows sing frequently.

I was there Thursday and came across a small pond and wetland that was
next to the course but not part of the course. I was pleasantly
surprised to see two phalaropes swimming in the pond. I did not have my
binocs with me, but believe they were Wilson's.

I did see an eagle flying over the Sound at one point.
