Even the birds are feeling the heat. A flock of Chestnut-backed Chickadees followed me around the yard as I watered the plants. Twice a chickadee flew through the stream of water from the hose. Mostly they went to the ground where the spray was hitting either to cool off or to drink. Then a Rufous Hummingbird joined the party and hovered so that the spray hit its belly as the hummer slowly worked its way up the stream of water stopping one foot from my hand.
