Today, Les Carlson and I tried for the BLACK & WHITE WARBLER at the St. Cloud Recreation Area, we arrived about 6:15am and heard the bird almost immediately. After a little searching I spotted it in the top of the tallest tree in the orchard, which I believe to be a hawthorn. We then headed to North Bonneville, and the power-line road just west of the Bonneville Hot Springs Resort along Greenleaf Slough, to search for a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT reported earlier by Russ Koppendrayer. We had one fly across the road as we drove up to the brushy hillside under the transmission towers. A short walk up the hill under the lines where we found a family group near the second set of transmission towers. From there we headed to Stevenson to check the Rock Creek Pond at the fairgrounds and were delighted to find 5 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER. Having added the warbler, chat and Western Sandpiper to Les' Skamania County list in under three hours we decided to push our luck and try for more species at the Red Bluff Road Ponds above Stevenson, nothing new was there but we did hear another yellow-breasted Chat calling there.
