Subject: [Tweeters] Snowy owl still on Waterville Plateau

On February 28, we spotted one snowy owl where others were described earlier
(F St north of Lamoine, between 11th and 12th). There were only a few,
small snow patches remaining, providing "cover" in a sea of greening winter
wheat. North up F St. was a melt pond with an adult bald eagle sitting on
the ice. Kind of unusual, but the Columbia River is a very short distance
away as the eagle flies. We did not see snow buntings, but we did see 100's
of horned larks, several rough-legged hawks, harriers, and red-tails. The
very friendly locals in the grocery store in Mansfield (good coffee btw)
said snowy owls were hanging out around the outskirts of town and the
cemetery. No luck seeing a snowy perched on a gravestone!
