How horrible!? If that is the location I think you are describing, that osprey nest has been there since the mid-90s at least -- I remember seeing it on an Ornithology field trip when Stephen Herman was teaching at Evergreen!
But maybe that means they will return, if this is a "traditional" location, passed down from generation to generation.

The osprey nest atop the power poles that parallel the bridge over the Chehalis south of Montesano is missing. The lady at the coffee stand said that they had winds of 60-70 mph a few weeks ago, and that may account for the missing nest. It will be interesting to see if the ospreys return and rebuild the nest.
