Subject: [Tweeters] Rufous females arrived first

My female Rufous h'birds arrived (seen at feeder) 4 days before the first males. I keep a feeder up all year for the Anna's too, so it's not that they were here unobserved. I was watching carefully, knowing they were due. Two friends here in western WA said they also saw this female-before-male pattern (one in Port Townsend, one on Kitsap penin). The books say males arrive first. What are other folks seeing for FOY, males or females? and why would females be arriving first??

Thanks for any help on this,
Jill
