Late afternoon on Friday 3/13 a bird (hawk or falcon?)was being mobbed by
jays across the road near Lake Padden in Bellingham. Then I noticed a large
(3-4") round patch of blue painted on its right wing with the number "61" in
white. Who or why would this bird be marked? It was large enough that at
first I thought it was a young eagle, but its beak was too small. I have a
dim photo I could send upon request.
