The largest group of us thus far (21) toured JBLM's Eagles Pride Golf Course
on a pleasant morning. Before we even started on the route, two RED-TAILED
HAWKS were seen walking on the 18th fairway, snagging earthworms. (This
activity has been noted by course personnel and by me in past years.)
Another RTHA was spotted carrying nesting material, and then flying up to
what we believe to be a new nest site at Hodge Lake. RTHA's have nested in
another location near Hodge Lake previously. RED CROSSBILLS continue to be
our "signature" species, and we've seen them every month since this walk
started in April 2013. (Two of us visited the area around the JBLM 91st
Division Prairie March 6th and noted crossbills at every place we stopped,
and even heard them as we traveled.) Further highlights and details are
noted in the eBird/NW report below.



The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at
8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf
Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the

Comments: Started at a cool 43 deg F, but warmed up to a near-balmy 56
deg F by the walk's conclusion; overcast with some sun breaks. Highlights
included seeing the first NORTHERN SHOVELERS of the year; continuing our
string of seeing RED CROSSBILLS (74 today); a high number (49) of AMERICAN
ROBINS; singing YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS; EVENING GROSBEAKS (29); VARIED
THRUSHES (4); a count-high 9 ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS; a RED-TAILED HAWK carrying
nesting material and putting it into a clearly seen nest at Hodge Lake; and
two RED-TAILED HAWKS walking in the 18th fairway feeding on earthworms. We
noted low numbers of Dark-eyed Juncos, Black-capped and Chestnut-backed
Chickadees, and Golden-crowned Kinglets.
