I finally got a chance to get my boat out on Sunday and ran from Shilshole
Bay in Seattle to Point No Point via Possession Bar south of Whidbey Island
where the Laysan Albatross was seen last Tuesday. Alas, an albatross did
not cross may path. There were however dozens of Bonaparte's Gulls working
a substantial tide rip north of Edmonds, and a number of Rhinoceros Auklets,
a flock of Bufflehead, Pelagic and Brandt's Cormorants,
about 100 Pacific Loons, a Common Loon, Red-breasted Mergansers, and
several hundred Western Grebes in the Possession Bar area. Around Point
Wells (south of Edmonds) were Surf Scoters, Brant, Canadian Geese, Barrow's
Goldeneyes, and Pigeon Guillemots very brightly colored. There were
Glaucous-winged Gulls throughout the area and Double-crested Cormorants
near or on the Shileshole breakwater.
