I spent the last two days birding at the Nisqually refuge and found the variety of birds to be amazing as usual. Yesterday, Sandy Sieber and I found a Common Teal among the numerous Green-winged Teals in the freshwater ponds just before the long boardwalk begins. The horizontal white stripe jumped right out when viewed through the spotting scope. There was also a flock of 12?Greater white-fronted Geese that seemed rather tame. ?On the previous day I saw 12 Dunlins and 2 Greater Yellowlegs very close to the boardwalk running about on the mud. Yesterday there was an interesting Goldeneye with an unusual face in McAllister Creek. It looked like it had white cheeks. It was disturbed by an Eagle, and in flight looked like a Common Goldeneye.?When we went to look for the Owl family on the pond boardwalk we found what looked like a Red-naped Sapsucker. Has anyone else seen this? Towards 6 pm we heard a Sora calling from the ponds near the visitor's center. A Common Yellowthroat male was displaying nicely and calling near the center.?Greetings Sandy if you see this!?-Mark VernonAuburn, WA
