On Friday March 27th I saw a 2nd winter ICELAND GULL at Cape Alva. It was
a Kumlien's and allowed me to get fairly close with my binoculars. There
were other gulls on adjacent rocks and they all flew, but this gull stayed
so I could study it. The location was just south of the Ozette River
mouth. There is a significant headlands that has a rope setup to climb
over at high tide. The bird was 150 yards south of this headland. A
NORTHERN PYGMY OWL was calling at 2:40 pm that same day at our campsite
near where the trail from Ozette Lake comes out to Cape Alva.

Today, March 29th I was fortunate enough to get my scope on a migrating
NORTHERN GOSHAWK while in my yard here on Discovery Bay. Many swallows and
warblers are on the move. BAND-TAILED PIGEON, RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER and a
PILEATED WOODPECKER were present in the yard. I tallied 65 species from
the yard today.
