April brought some migrants to Edmonds, as expected. Code 3 (harder to find, but usually seen annually) sightings included two separate observations of American Pipits near the marsh, several seen or heard observations of Common Yellowthroat around the marsh, and a fly-by of a single Whimbrel from the public pier just a few days ago. Code 2 (uncommon) sightings were of Black-throated Gray Warblers at Yost Park and the Willow Creek Hatchery. At least one Pacific-slope Flycatcher is continuing at Yost Park. Code 1 warblers, both Orange-crowned and Wilson?s, have been singing at several locations. We are not aware of any Yellow Warbler sightings yet. Nor have there been any vireo or other flycatchers about. That should change soon.

At the marsh this week there were an impressive?for this location?58 Least Sandpipers, along with several Westerns. During April there were several reports of Greater Yellowlegs and at least one Dunlin, both code 3 birds for Edmonds. There were four Red Crossbills (code 3) working on some catkins at the Willow Creek hatchery a few days ago.

Our collective list is at 128 species.

Happy migrant hunting,
