Subject: [Tweeters] (Clark Co.) Massive missed opportunity - Ferruginous Hawk

This morning I was at Steigerwald searching for Cindy's YB Chat which
didn't turn up.
I was walking out of the park and talking to my wife about the groceries I
need to get on the way back home.
While talking I passed by a birding group of about 15 very excited birders
and thought "gee, I should ask these guys what they're seeing" but no... I
made my mental notes of groceries and was about 20 yards away from the
group when I hung up. If I would've taken 120 more seconds out of my day I
would've discovered that they were all looking at a Ferruginous Hawk.
A Ferruginous Hawk!!!!???!!!!

I am very, very happy for Ev Armitage and the rest of the group :)

I have learned my lesson: be a good husband & father AND ask the group
what they're looking at.
Hopefully it will still be there Monday.

P.S. Here's EV's words in Ebird - "ID confirmed by trip leader & others in
group; large hawk flying and perching low above ground in open grassy area
between highway and stand of cottonwoods, a lot of white on face, got good
looks at it in spotting scope"
