Being such an incredible Birder, it is a rare day in the world of Jeff Gibson that I "have", "nail", or whatever, a life bird. Just kidding about that incredible Birder part.
Despite watching birds for more than fifty years, I'm still finding new- to -me -species. That's because I don't do anything, or go anywhere very much. Kind of a lazy nature bum really. Not much ambition I'm afraid. At least for the last few decades. The reasons for my lack of field time would require explanations that would go way off the Tweeters reservation.
One general area I have spent very little time at in the past few decades, is the open Pacific ocean coast. I rarely go there . So on on a recent two -day nature tourist tour of the peninsula I was thrilled to the core to accidentally meet a life bird - three Pacific Golden Plovers on the beach at Kalaloch. Two bright males, and a female, mixed with five Dunlin. The Ocean Eight. Got some good looks before they flew off North. The two days I spent at the coast were remarkably un-birdy overall, particularly at the beaches. But wonderful nonetheless .
