I have recently seen Wesley, the male Anna's hummingbird who guards the #1 viewing platform of the Edmonds marsh, frequently buzz a pair of song sparrows which have taken up residence in his territory.? ?? He will also check out larger birds which perch on his usual perches on a nearby tree and on the fence behind the boardwalk.

I suspect the behavior is related to a male Anna's' strong territorial instinct rather a dispute over food.

Subject: [Tweeters] Anna's Hummingbird Chasing European Starling

Today, 03/15/2015, I witnessed something here in Port Angeles that I've never seen before. I saw an?Anna's Hummingbird chasing a European Starling perhaps over some sort of dispute, but for the life of me, I can't think of anything for which the two species might be fighting. Anyone ever witness such a dispute?
