Lake Sammamish State Park, King, US-WA
May 15, 2015 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Protocol: Traveling
3.0 mile(s)
Comments: Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood birded with 6 others at Eastside Audubon's monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park on May 15, 2015, from 8:00 am to noon. Skies were partly cloudy, 53-64F, 0-4 mph. HIGHLIGHTS: COMMON MERGANSER female with a long string of 15 young trailing behind, 3 hopped on her back; SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 4 for sure at the Issaquah Creek Point, maybe 5; BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were flying overhead everywhere; 3 RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS; 2 WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES; 2 PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS; WARBLING VIREOS; 6 SWAINSON'S THRUSH; 8 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS; 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, 8 WESTERN TANAGER, 3 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 5 WARBLER SPECIES. (P.S. After leaving the park, having lunch and then stopping for gas at the Issaquah Costco, I saw a GREEN HERON fly from the park, over Costco and towards downtown Issaquah. At the same stop, I also saw 2 OSPREY BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS and put these in a separate eBird list.) 56 species for the day, 117 for the year. Critters: Eastern Gray Squirrels. The next bird walk is Wednesday, JUNE 24. No pre-registration, just show up depending on your mood or the weather. Since this is a state park, a Discover Pass is necessary to park ($10 daily, $30 annual). We meet in the large parking lot to the left just inside the main park entrance, now signed as the Costco Parking lot, but we meet at the far end towards the lake (not the boat launch entrance).Submitted from BirdLog NA for Android v1.96.
56 species
