Subject: [Tweeters] Lazuli Buntings--do they have a courtship

Today on our dead end Henry heard and then saw five male Lazuli Buntings. This is a first for that area as far as he knows. We watched them flying around, singing from the tops of shrub trees and from telephone wires and then we realized they were doing this interesting flight. Rather than the swooping and gliding that one would expect to see they would fly in a straight line, flapping rapidly so as to resemble a wind-up toy!
Has anyone seen this and can tell us if it was a courtship flight?
Also Henry found a Red-breasted Nuthatch nest and we saw the parents bringing food for their offspring. It was in a small cavity in a tree. Good times close to home!
