Hello,

Wednesday morning, I found one Bobolink in a field north of Newman Lake.
This was rather rewarding as I have thought for many years that this area
provides the best habitat for bobolinks in Spokane County and have tried for
them here over the years. This bird was seen from Muzzy Rd from a major
curve about .1 mi south of a green and yellow building. This is about .1
past Osprey Ln (a private rd). I first heard the bird singing and found it
sitting on a barb wire fence about 1/4 mile out in the field looking west
from the curve. Also, there were 6 Western Grebes sitting on the north end
of the lake with one Clark?s Grebe with them. 8 species of warblers in the
surrounding forests.

Last night, I was joined by a friend for some birding along Chamokane Creek
on Martha Boardman Rd in southern Stevens County (Spokane Indian
Reservation). Here we found a Yellow breasted Chat, many Veeries, and a
Ruffed Grouse drumming. Along Rail Canyon Rd, we located two Flammulated
Owls and 2 Common Poorwils (heard only. This is the traditional spot where
flams have been located for years. Right before dark, we were able to find
many Veeries, Swainson?s Thrush, MacGillivray?s Warblers and an American
Redstart (first time at this location for me).
