Spent a few days in Kennewick and Quincy watching a Golf Tournament. Tried to get a little birding in on the side, but it's tough when you're with a non-birding crowd.
That's OK, there were a few highlights along the way. When traveling from Quincy to Kennewick, southbound along the Columbia on Highway 243 (East of Vantage). There were several places along the river where I saw one or two white pelicans.
When at the golf course in Kennewick I saw several small flocks flying overhead.
I also understand that they nest along the Columbia at the Hanford Reach National Monument Area. They are listed as common in Spring and Fall and fairly common in Summer and Winter.
I also got the pleasure of adding a Bullock's Oriole to my life list when in Kennewick and trying to get a decent picture of the Swainson's Hawks that nest in the tree near Mom's house in Quincy.
Happy Birding!
