Tweets,

Yesterday 37 of us had a great day at Nisqually. We started in a cold fog
but the sun came out later in the morning and warmed things up. We had a
13.2 high tide at 12:44PM so lots of water in the reclamation area.

It was slow at the beginning but we found a couple of mixed flocks in the
orchard and at the start of the service road. Both flocks contained
BLACK-CAPPED and CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, GOLDEN-CROWNED and RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLETS, BROWN CREEPER, and BEWICK'S WREN. We also has GOLDEN-CROWNED,
SONG and FOX SPARROW, and SPOTTED TOWHEE in the same area.

At the pond across from the orchard we had KILLDEER and WILSON'S SNIPE. On
the pond were MALLARDS, NORTHERN SHOVELER and GREEN-WINGED TEAL. Later we
would add AMERICAN and EURASIAN WIGEON, NORTHER PINTAIL, RING-NECKED DUCKS
and BUFFLEHEAD.

There were 4 PEREGRINE FALCON on the refuge as well as the female AMERICAN
KESTRAL that has been present for the last month or so. Other raptors
included several BALD EAGLES, NORTHERN HARRIERS, and a couple of RED-TAILED
HAWKS. The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen later in the day but missed by our
group.

Out off the estuary boardwalk we had BRANT, WESTERN GREBE and BONAPARTE'S
GULL, as well as SURF SCOTERS and BRANDT'S CORMORANT.

The only shorebirds seen were GREATER YELLOWLEGS and DUNLIN out on the
surge plain in addition to the KILLDEER and WILSON'S SNIPE.

For the day I had 55 species and now have 149 for the year. A couple more
trips out the estuary boardwalk and I will add to that total.

Until next week when Shep and Eric will lead in my absence.....
