Hi, Tom and Tweets,
David and I were there on Tues, played a tape on both the golf course and the street in front of the house, but had no luck with the BCCH. However, in that same yard, the nearby driveway, and the large deciduous tree in front (while standing on the golf course) we had Pine Siskin (code 3), Varied Thrush (Code 3) and Evening Grosbeak (Code 4).

The next day we were up in Stevens Co. doing the drive nicely written up in the new BG to WA from Farm-to-Market south of Chewelah to Valley, and we were able to add 10 birds to our Stevens Co list, including a Code 5 Bonaparte?s Gull at Waitt?s Lake?it was sitting on one of the docks to the left as you stand by the water at the public boat launch area. We had planned to stay in E WA until Fri., but immediately started back west when it began raining and snowing in Spokane around 11 a.m. on Thurs, much earlier than predicted. Wimps?we admit it!! To think we survived our college years at WAZZU...

Subject: [Tweeters] Ritzville Chickadee Bonanza...

Late this afternoon I was playing the Ritzville golf course (actually, I was playing a tape on the course) and scored a very special double ?birdie!? I noticed some commotion in a shrub on the parking strip of the first house on S. Fairway just off S. Weber (that?s across from the McDonald?s) so moved closer. House Sparrows in the bush first responded, then came the scolding of a Code 4 Black Capped Chickadee ? which was my target and my 101st species seen in every WA county ? but I was really surprised when up popped a Code 5 Mountain Chickadee. The home owner came out to see why I was photographing her bush and flushed the birds. It was an odd flock ? the House Sparrows, chickadees, a Red-breasted Nuthatch and a single California Quail that ?spit, spit, spit? into another tree.
