Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 15. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATERS are now being seen all along the coast, but most
are rather distant. On October 10 a RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD was seen off
Coquille Head in Bandon. A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen October 8 at the
Frenchglen Hotel. On October 3 an EMPEROR GOOSE was in Brookings.

MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES were reported during the week from many areas west of
the Cascades. On October 13 a flock of ten was in southwest Portland.
TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continue to be seen along the coast.

On October 9 about 16,000 SURF SCOTERS were on the ocean off Cape Blanco. A
FRANKLIN?S GULL was at Gold Beach October 9.
On October 13 a SWAMP SPARROW was at the Fernhill Wetlands. A BURROWING OWL
was seen October 12 in Linn County. On October 7 a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO was
at the Philomath S. Ponds. 25 EARED GREBES were there October 11. A kettle
of 18 RED-TAILED HAWKS was over Eugene October 8.

On October 13 two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, some BLACK-CAPPED and MOUNTAIN
CHICKADEES and two HERRING GULLS were at the Wood River Wetlands. Among a
swarm of migrants at Benson Pond October 12 was a SWAMP SPARROW. On October
14 a RED KNOT and a SURF SCOTER were at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend.
