I have heard nothing but good things about Mike Carmody's birding tours. He also has one of the best senses of humor, which can help on a hectic tour. If you want to go native, I can uneqivocally recommend tours led by Eric Antonio Martinez from Oaxaca. He is the nephew of the famous guide Roque Antonio and though younger, he is very experienced. His Cuban wife Jilly is a botanist, birder & mushroomer. Have been out with them quite a few times, in the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas & Veracruz. I believe he would custom a tour anywhere in Mexico for you but would say the southern states would be his forte. He runs a series of group tours which are often filled up by limey twitchers. His email is: mirmidons_1987 at yahoo.com.
